We are now finishing our tours for the season. Thank you to everyone for coming to pick with us.

           Educational Tours

Perry Lowe Orchards is a fifth generation family farm, located on 600 acres of beautiful mountain top land (150 acres of orchard) at the Wilkes/Alexander county line off of Highway 16 South. We have managed apple tours of our apple house and orchards for many years.  Following is a list of educational tour opportunities for the coming year.  Please note the Educational Tours are available by appointment only.

  1. A-maze-ing Apple Tree Maze:

Come and lose yourself in our apple tree maze as you learn about apple varieties (there are 18 different varieties in our 2 acre maze and almost a thousand trees), and learn at “apple time” (our educational talk all about apples).  Everyone gets to pick a 1/4 peck bag of apples in the our apple maze and can pick their own favorite varieties to fill their bag.  We provide the bags for picking and the apples, you get to be the apple picker in the apple maze.

2.     Playground

All of the groups can enjoy our playground area at the apple tree maze and playground area which now includes:

Hay Play - A wonderful maze and climbing area for the children complete with safe, soft hay bales for lots of hay playing fun.

Perry Lowe Orchard "Beach" - "Happiness is a beach" at our apple orchard beach complete with sand, beach balls, beach toys, and seashells.

3.     Hayride:

Our hayride takes all our apple pickers on a scenic ride through the orchard.  The apple farmer even provides a delicious apple for each one to enjoy eating on the hay ride.

  1. Picnic Area:

Alongside our Apple Tree Maze several picnic tables will be available for your convenience.  We provide trashcans and port-a johns for your convenience,  Also, this is a great spot for taking those special class pictures to enjoy later.

  1. Pumpkin Picking

At the maze this year the children may enjoy picking their own pumpkin from our pre-picked pumpkin patch.  Please let us know if your group would like to pick a pumpkin too.  There is a small charge for the cost of the pumpkin, please let us know if your group would like to do this.  This will be available in season and the school should allow for additional time for the children to pick out their own pumpkin to take home.  Markers will be available so the teachers or children may put their name on their pumpkin.  The pumpkin patch is reserved especially for school groups and features smaller pumpkins for easy picking and carrying.

  1. Apple House

Your tour will start at our apple house where each group will learn what the apple farmer does and all about how apples are cared for in our apple house.  Our apple house is located on Highway 16 South and is easy to find beside the road that goes to our apple orchard.  We sell apples, peaches and nectarines (in season), many vegetables, jams, jellies, honey, baked goods, our own pasteurized apple cider and gift items. Bathroom facilities are available at our apple house.

The Apple Tree Maze tour and hayride are available by appointment only and will take approximately 1 to 1 ˝ hours depending on the size of your group.  Also, when scheduling, please let us know if your group will be bringing their lunch and will need to use the picnic area.   For additional information and admission fees or to schedule an appointment please contact Katrina Lowe at 336-921-2320 or email us at tloweapple@wilkes.net.
